Storyboarding project

Pre- Production

I had a lot of fun with the pre-production on this project. I am not going to lie, in the past storyboarding has not been my favorite thing to do. I always just wanted to go, go, go. However, for this assignment, I felt like I really put a lot of thought into it. I struggled at first to come up with an idea and being given the required shots was very challenging for me. I think that my storyboard, even though thought went into it, definitely still could have been better. I think that if I had been able to use my own shots and own vision and to play with it and mess around with it, that it would have been better for me. That said, going into filming I felt like I had a pretty solid plan and I even took made a shot list, which is something that I haven't really played with before.

Production

I was not super pleased with the way that my filming went today. I felt like I was going into it with a settled plan in motion but as soon as I started filming it all fell apart. There was a bunch of shots that I wanted to do in a certain way in my head but that didn't end up working that way, and if I had more time to complete the assignment I think that I definitely would have gone back to reshoot them. There were a few issues that I had but the main problem was continuity. I realized after shooting that almost all of my scenes had some minor continuity issues but when they are all put together, I am sure that it is going to be noticeable and bring the film down. I think that the big lesson that I learned from project is that even though you have a storyboard and you feel like you have a plan, things can go wrong on location that you need to plan for. You need to build in appropriate time for reshoots, and to be able to film multiple takes and angles on the first day as well.

Post Production

I had an interesting experience with the post-production on this piece. When I first started editing, I was really unhappy with it. The shots were by far some of the worst that I have taken. The process was very rushed and there some issues with continuity and lighting and just general logistics. A good example is that you can see the camera box in one of the shots. All of that said, as I continued to edit it I feel like it started to really improve. It is still by no means a great piece of cinema but, I think that I was able to add good elements. I'm pretty happy with some of the cutting on action that I added in and I did some color correcting. The one shot came out very yellow so I tried to change the color of the rest to get it close so that it was not as much of a jump. The other big problem was that I wasn't able to fix was that I couldn't get music. I had music picked out that I think really would have added to it, but unfortunately, the clipgrab wouldn't let me download it.
